Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday dedicated the Dindigul – Palani – Palakkad electrified section to the nation through video conferencing method. The section was electrified at a cost of 242 crore.

Dindigul – Palani – Palakkad section is one of the important sections linking Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It was closed for gauge conversion work in 2009. It was reopened for traffic in 2015. This section that was catered through diesel traction has been electrified to offer an environment-friendly mode of transportation.

Further, electrification will pave the way for the introduction of MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) trains. It will bring about seamless connectivity providing faster access to pilgrimage places like the famed Palani temple and other tourism destinations in the lap of western ghats. The electrification is also considered as another milestone towards zero carbon emission, said the railway officials.
