Over 25 lakh properties in Bengaluru brought under e-Khata system

On Friday, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced that the state government has successfully registered over 25 lakh properties in Bengaluru under the e-Khata system. The e-Khata system is an electronic property certificate that keeps ownership details in an online database. Shivakumar stated that the e-Khata initiative is designed to promote accuracy, transparency, and comprehensive coverage for property owners.

During a press conference, Shivakumar, who also serves as the Minister in charge of Bengaluru, mentioned that more than 25 lakh properties are being integrated into the e-Khata system. Out of these, over 7,000 applications have already been processed, with further outreach efforts planned for those who have not yet acquired their e-Khata. “Achieving twenty-five lakh e-Khatas is a remarkable milestone that has made history,” he remarked.

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that each e-Khata includes GPS coordinates, property shape, measurements, along with all relevant photos and documents. He elaborated that the government is merging Aadhaar information, digital documentation, GPS mapping, and property sketches to establish a comprehensive database. “Our goal is to ensure that every record is accurately completed. Officials are requesting documentation, stamps, and digital files. We aim to link every Aadhaar card and make it accessible online,” Shivakumar stated.

To enhance accessibility, the Deputy Chief Minister revealed the establishment of over 50 centers throughout Bengaluru, many located in government schools, where citizens can apply for or amend their e-Khata records. “All centers will be operational this Saturday. This ‘Khata Mela’ will take place. It is ‘Nanna Khata, Nanna Swathu’,” he declared.

Applicants whose documents need verification will receive an acknowledgment and will be instructed to return after 15 days, during which officials will perform site inspections, he added. Shivakumar also mentioned that the government has initiated measures to identify and reclaim properties designated as roads in revenue documents, asserting that such lands are government property.

We have determined through legal means that all roads listed in the revenue records have been removed. These properties are owned by the government itself,” he stated. He mentioned that the initiative has garnered recognition from the Union government. “The Government of India has honored us, indicating that it serves as a model for the entire nation,” he expressed, while extending his gratitude to the officials involved in the project.

The Deputy Chief Minister indicated that the government anticipates approximately 10 lakh additional households will benefit from this initiative and assured that even those who have not downloaded their documents will receive printed copies at their homes free of charge. “We will ensure that all 25 lakh individuals receive their e-Khata delivered to their homes at no cost,” Shivakumar affirmed.

Regarding apartment properties, he stated that all flats that have received occupancy certificates have been approved. “All 37,460 flats (that have applied for e-Khata) have been granted an occupancy certificate. We have approved all of them,” the Deputy Chief Minister confirmed.
