Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Secretary Aramane Giridhar (IAS) has been given additional charge of the Chairman of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). “The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the assignment of the additional charge of the post of the Chairman of NHAI to Giridhar till the appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders whichever is earlier,” said an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Giridhar is a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Andhra Pradesh cadre. He has been serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways since May 1, 2020. He is an M Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT-Madras, he also holds a Master’s Degree in Economics. He has undergone training in finance and banking matters at Singapore and France, apart from the IIM Bangalore, IIFT New Delhi and Tata Mgt Trg Centre, Pune.
Prior to his current assignment in MoRTH, he was serving as Additional Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat. He has also been a Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas during 2012-14. He has also worked in the government of Andhra Pradesh in various positions including field and policy level and has vast experience in organisational and finance matters.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency of the government, set up in 1995 and is responsible for the management of a network of over 50,000 km of National Highways out of 1,32,499 km in India. It is a nodal agency of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
