MahaRERA Cancels Registration Of 18,693 Real Estate Agents

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has revoked the registration of 18,693 real estate agents due to non-compliance with essential requirements, such as certification and license renewals.

According to information available on the authority’s official website, out of 50,673 agents registered with MahaRERA, only 31,980 currently possess active registrations. The remaining agents have been deregistered for various compliance issues, primarily the failure to secure the necessary certification or to timely renew their licenses.

MahaRERA, which also oversees the registration of approximately 50,000 real estate projects, has established an extensive network of agents not only within Maharashtra but also from over 150 cities across India. This network includes major urban centers such as New Delhi, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Ahmedabad, among others. The involvement of agents from outside the state underscores their crucial role in facilitating transactions between developers and homebuyers.

Maharashtra is at the forefront of the country, leading in both the number of registered real estate projects and registered agents. Regionally, the Konkan area, which encompasses the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, boasts the highest number of registered agents at 21,050, followed by Pune with 8,205 agents, while Nagpur, North Maharashtra, Sambhajinagar, and Amravati collectively account for over 2,500 additional agents.

Acknowledging the considerable impact that agents exert on the decisions of homebuyers, MahaRERA requires them to possess a thorough understanding of essential components of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016. Agents are tasked with informing prospective buyers about critical regulatory factors including the Model Sale Agreement, Allotment Letter, Carpet Area, and Defect Liability Period. This promotes transparency and uniformity in property transactions.
