With an aim to start installation of smart QR code-based unique identity number (UID) plates in city, the private firm hired for the purpose has commenced mapping of various blocks here.
Owing to the recent haphazard growth of the city, the mapping which was done almost a decade ago, requires upgradation. The officials claimed it will take at least a week to commence the installation process.
The survey teams are already in the city and have started studying the city maps.
A mobile application, which will allow officials to check the entire process of mapping and installation of plates, is also being created. The sources revealed that the major issue is of matching the properties with records of the municipal corporation (MC).
During the ongoing mapping work in block 29, it was found that in place of one of the properties which were earlier numbered by the MC, many new had cropped up. There are also many places which used to be vacant plots, but now buildings have come up and a single property has been divided into multiple units.
An official said there was a need to be very careful about fresh mapping of properties and UID numbering. He added the firm will now take stock of the on-ground situation and match the same with city maps before commencement of the installation. He stated that currently the mapping work is going on in two blocks – 29 and 31 – and in total, 37 blocks are to be covered.
He said, “According to MC records, there are around 4.25 lakh properties but we are expecting the number to have increased to around 5 lakh now.”
MC superintendent Vivek Verma said, “The contractor has started his work in field and we are expecting to go ahead with installation in the next few days.” He said the contractor has a year to cover all properties in city, but they will set a target of six months to ensure quick completion of the project.
