Greater Noida announces cleanliness survey for residential societies

The Greater Noida Authority will hold an internal, competitive cleanliness survey on the lines of Swachh Survekshan.

Residential societies, which are bulk waste generators, coming first will get a prize of Rs 2 lakh, while those bagging the second and third spots will get Rs 1.5 and Rs 1 lakh, respectively.

While the Authority has invited applications from all residential societies (builder and co-operative societies) generating bulk waste from Thursday, the last date to submit applications is December 10. The final results will be out on January 3.

Narendra Bhooshan, CEO of GNIDA, said, “We aim to make Greater Noida a smart city with all waste management and environment-friendly parameters. In this context, we have initiated an internal competition among bulk waste generators to promote awareness towards bulk waste management.”

Institutions can also apply, officials said. And some of the parameters include monitoring of waste segregation, quantity of solid and liquid waste per day, their collection, transformation and disposal, along with functional sewage treatment plants (STP).

“Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, is applicable in Greater Noida. Under this, the bulk waste generators have to dispose of the garbage on their own. The Authority only picks up inert waste,” said a senior GNIDA official.

“Most societies come under the category of bulk waste generators. To give a further boost to this campaign, on the instructions of CEO Narendra Bhooshan, the Authority is organising a cleanliness ranking competition for bulk waste generators,” he added.

Last year, about 50 societies took part in this competition, and Stellar Jeevan apartment complex in GH-03, Sector-1, came first.
