Flash floods wash away culvert on Jammu-Rajouri highway

Flash floods triggered by overnight rainfall washed away a temporary culvert on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch national highway late Thursday, following which traffic was suspended on the highway and diverted to link roads via Beri-Pattan-Sunderbani and Kalakote.

Flash floods triggered by overnight rainfall washed away a temporary culvert on the Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch national highway late Thursday, following which traffic was suspended on the highway and diverted to link roads via Beri-Pattan-Sunderbani and Kalakote.

Due to the ongoing construction of a bridge at Rajal Top in Nowshera, the main highway had been closed about a month ago and a culvert was built to facilitate vehicular movement, said officials on Friday, adding that efforts to restore the highway were underway.

All heavy/passenger vehicles were diverted from Siot towards Kalakote-Rajouri while private/light motor vehicles were diverted from Nowshera bridge to Beri-Pattan-Sunderbani road.
