Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation’s revenue committee has relaxed rules for applying for tax benefit for unused properties. The period to apply for the benefit has been extended till May 31 from the earlier April 1-7.
Owners of residential properties whose two-month electricity usage is less than 30 units are eligible for this tax benefit. The eligibility for commercial properties is 50 units Jainik Vakil, chairman of the committee said that the status of these applications would earlier reflect as ‘pending’ because the application period was at the beginning of a financial year.
Extension of the deadline will correct this and also reduce pending applications by about 25,000 every year.
“However, owners of properties with no electricity connection will still need to apply in the April 1-7 period,” Vakil added.
