Centre Clears Final Alignment for Patna Ring Road

by Constro Facilitator

The long-awaited Patna Ring Road project has achieved a major milestone with the Central Government approving the final alignment for its eighth and final phase. The approval removes one of the last significant hurdles for the ambitious ₹16,000 crore infrastructure project, which is expected to transform connectivity across Bihar and significantly ease traffic congestion in Patna.

Conceived nearly two decades ago, the Patna Ring Road aims to divert heavy vehicular traffic away from the city’s crowded urban core while strengthening road connectivity between Patna and neighbouring districts such as Vaishali and Saran. Once completed, the project is expected to improve regional mobility, reduce travel time, and support economic development across the state.

According to reports, the ring road is being developed in eight phases and will connect several strategic locations, including Kanhauli, Sherpur, Sarai, Kacchi Dargah, Bidupur, Chak Sikandar, Dighwara, and Didarganj. The extensive network is designed to integrate key transport corridors and create a seamless road infrastructure system around the Bihar capital.

The approval of the final stretch between Dighwara and Sarai is particularly significant as it will complete the ring road’s circular connectivity and enhance integration with multiple national highways. This section is expected to improve the movement of both passenger and freight traffic between northern and southern parts of Bihar, reducing pressure on existing city roads and bridges.

The project includes several modern infrastructure components such as six-lane highway stretches, grade separators, flyovers, underpasses, and major bridges across the Ganga River and other waterways. These features are aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, improving road safety, and supporting future traffic growth in the region.

Road Construction Department Minister Kumar Shailendra highlighted the importance of the project, noting that work began nearly 20 years ago and is now progressing steadily toward completion. He stated that the development has the potential to reshape Patna’s urban landscape in a manner similar to the transformative impact of ring-road infrastructure on the Delhi-NCR region.

Beyond improving transportation efficiency, the Patna Ring Road is expected to drive real estate development, industrial growth, and investment opportunities along its corridor. Enhanced connectivity often leads to the emergence of new residential, commercial, and logistics hubs, creating long-term economic benefits for surrounding districts.
