The deadline for residents of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation (BMC) area, including Salt Lake and Rajarhat Gopalpur, to settle their property tax for all quarters of the 2024-25 financial year through online methods is April 5. Following this date, the BMC will issue tax demand notices for the 2025-26 financial year.
The municipal authorities have announced on their official website that online property tax payments for all quarters of the 2024-25 financial year will cease at midnight on Saturday, April 5. In-person cash payments will be accepted until the end of Friday, April 4. For those opting to pay via cheque or demand draft, the final payment date is today, March 31.
The municipal authority is focused on enhancing property tax revenue this year. The estimated collection has been raised from Rs 40 crore last year to Rs 44 crore for the current year. Additionally, the BMC is in negotiations with a bank to implement the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) as a new payment option for taxpayers, supplementing the current online and offline methods. “Our goal is to provide taxpayers with greater convenience in paying their property tax via a mobile application,” stated a civic representative.
The civic body has commenced the distribution of property tax bills to residents in wards 27 and 28, which include Mahisbathan and Nayapatti, who have completed the assessment and mutation of their properties. “Residents in these areas have not yet paid property tax; they have been paying ‘khajna’ or land revenue to the local BLRO office,” officials noted.
Furthermore, officials indicated that the West Bengal Valuation Board is undertaking a comprehensive evaluation of the BMC’s property tax framework to establish a new standardized property tax system for all 41 wards, utilizing the Unit Area Assessment method.
