On October 23, 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah performed the foundation stone laying ceremony for the Rs 805-crore Shantipura–Khodiyar GIDC six-lane highway project in Sanand, Gujarat, which is designed to improve connectivity and foster industrial development.
The 28.8 km highway, to be constructed by the Gujarat State Road Development Corporation (GSRDC), will alleviate congestion on the existing four-lane segment that currently handles 43,000 vehicles each day.
The project encompasses the six-laning of the entire route, the addition of 22.73 km of service roads, the widening of 13 small bridges, a six-lane elevated flyover, a three-lane right-turn flyover, and five underpasses at critical points. Furthermore, 172 culverts will be either built or renovated to guarantee continuous link road connectivity.
The enhanced highway is anticipated to shorten travel times, boost fuel efficiency, improve safety, and provide easier access to significant industrial and logistics centers such as Viramgam, Surendranagar, Shankheshwar, Radhanpur, and Patan. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other esteemed guests.
