The city civic body’s tax department on Monday sealed 3,501 shops in various areas of the city for non-payment of property tax. The sealed properties included 2,560 in the South Zone and 416 in the West Zone, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation(AMC) said in a statement. The civic body recovered Rs 6.74 crore in taxes during the sealing drive.
The department also issued recovery notices to 179 offices and businesses over short payment of professional tax and recovered Rs 17.73 lakh.
The civic body’s solid waste management department collected Rs 10,000 in penalties from 106 people caught spitting at public places.
