The Union government has transferred 53.174 acres of salt pan land to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) under a 99-year lease valued at Rs 12.9 crore, marking a significant advancement for the Dahisar-Bhayandar Link Road (DBLR) project.
This action follows two years after the BMC awarded a contract for the construction of the road. Earlier this year, the Salt Commissioner, operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, issued a notice that formalized the lease.
The Ministry clarified that the land is exclusively designated for the DBLR and cannot be assigned to any other organization, with any legal disputes or compensation matters to be addressed by the receiving agency.
Upon its completion in three years, the DBLR is expected to greatly decrease travel time from Nariman Point to Mira Bhayandar, thereby providing a substantial enhancement to Mumbai’s road infrastructure.
