Kinet Railway Solutions, based in Mumbai, has formed a partnership with Tube Investments of India (TI India), a company under the Murugappa Group, to produce coach carbodies for the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train project. This collaboration is in line with the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, which aims to strengthen domestic manufacturing and decrease dependence on imports.

TI India contributes its knowledge in structural fabrication and precision steel forming to the project, aiding in the creation of high-quality sleeper coaches intended for long-distance travel. The Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains are designed to provide improved comfort and efficiency, incorporating advanced features such as automatic doors, cushioned berths, onboard Wi-Fi, and contemporary interiors.

These trains are anticipated to reach speeds of up to 180 km/h, significantly shortening travel times on major routes. The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) located in Chennai has already finished manufacturing the first 16-car Vande Bharat Sleeper Train set, which has successfully passed extensive trials. Plans are in place to produce nine additional train sets by the end of this year, with full-scale production of 24-car configurations set to begin in 2026-27. This expansion is expected to transform overnight rail travel in India, providing passengers with a seamless and luxurious experience.

The collaboration between Kinet Railway Solutions and TI India marks a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of self-sufficiency in railway technology. By utilizing domestic expertise and resources, this initiative not only improves the country’s manufacturing capabilities but also supports sustainable and eco-friendly urban development.
