90% of Madurai metro DPR completed: CMRL

Around 90% of the detailed project report (DPR) of Madurai metro rail project has been completed and the DPR will be submitted to the state government by July 15, said T Archunan, project director of Madurai metro rail project.

Archunan was speaking to reporters after inspecting a potential metro rail depot site at Thirumangalam on Tuesday.

Later, the project director inspected the sites near the Madurai railway station and Meenakshi Amman temple.

He said that three challenging areas noticed in the DPR are bypassing the railway track near Madura College, constructing the rail track in the central zone of Madurai, which has many traditional structures of the city, and underground track planned below the Vaigai riverbed.

The Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 8,500 crore for the first phase of Madurai metro project which is planned in between Thirumangalam and Othakadai for a distance of 31 km.
