GHMC plans setting up two more C&D plants soon

Making the announcement on Thursday, the civic body explained that as per tender conditions, an agency has already qualified for establishing two plants and proposals were sent to the government for approval.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to set up two more construction and demolition (C&D) waste management plants within a 10km distance in the city.

Making the announcement on Thursday, the civic body explained that as per tender conditions, an agency has already qualified for establishing two plants and proposals were sent to the government for approval.

“Once the approval is received from the government, GHMC will enter into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the agency, and the plant must establish within a year from the date of MoU,” GHMC said.

Already, two C&D plants — one at Jeedimetla and the other at Fathullaguda with a processing capacity of about 500 MT daily — were in operation in Hyderabad.

However, officials said that there has been a requirement to collect and process construction waste from 15 circles in Secunderabad and Charminar zones. Hence, the civic body was planning to locate the proposed plants in close proximity to Charminar and Secunderabad zones.

However, another tender condition is that the agency must have a five-acre land of their own on which the plant would be set up.

In the two new plants, debris from Chandrayangutta, Charminar, Falaknuma, Rajendranagar, Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Goshamahal and Jubilee Hills in Charminar zone and Kapra, Musheerabad, Khairatabad, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, and Begumpet circles in Secunderabad zone would be processed.
