BBMP-Demolition of 110 properties in Mahadevapura & KR Puram

BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath told media on Thursday that the tahsildar has issued eviction orders to demolish 110 properties and instructed officials concerned to complete the exercise within 15 days.

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike(BBMP) is all set to continue its anti-encroachment drive and demolish 110 properties in Mahadevapura and KR Puram in the next 15 days.

BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath told media on Thursday that the tahsildar has issued eviction orders to demolish 110 properties and instructed officials concerned to complete the exercise within 15 days.

The eviction drive will begin Saturday, he said. The anti-encroachment drive was stopped for a few weeks as BBMP officials and tahsildars from Bengaluru Urban district were busy with the May 10 assembly elections.

“We cleared around 25 properties in Mahadevapura and KR Puram recently. We have identified properties in 571 survey numbers that have encroached on stormwater drains. These are 118 more properties, which got a stay order from the court. Till Thursday morning, we received eviction orders for properties in 110 survey numbers,” Nath said.

The drive will continue for other survey numbers soon after BBMP receives eviction orders, he added.

According to officials, the anti-encroachment drive involves coordination between BBMP, revenue department and surveyors. The survey department marks the encroached properties and tahsildars from Bengaluru Urban issue eviction orders. The Palike has started following the due process before undertaking eviction work to avoid unnecessary hurdles, officials said.

After some encroachers had approached court against the eviction work, claiming the Palike was not following procedure, encroachments are being removed as soon as relevant surveys are conducted by the assistant director of land records and demolition orders are issued by the tahsildars, they said.
