The municipal authority is undertaking an initiative to create a protective barrier between individuals and potential hazards. As part of its Non-Motorized Transport Infrastructure policy, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is installing safety railings and crash barriers across 90 locations in the city’s seven zones.

According to AMC officials, this initiative aims to decrease accidents, improve pedestrian safety — particularly for the elderly, disabled individuals, and children — ensure that sidewalks remain unobstructed, enhance traffic discipline, reduce encroachments, facilitate the smooth passage of emergency vehicles, and alleviate traffic congestion.

Officials have also indicated plans to place crash barriers on high-speed highways, bridges, and areas prone to accidents. In the West Zone, significant roads that will receive safety barriers include the section opposite Kameshwar Mahadev Temple, SP Ring Road in Makarba, the route from Parasmani Apartment to IOC Petrol Pump, the stretch from Shastrinagar to Vardan Tower, CG Road, Ashram Road, IIMA-Helmet Road, the segment from Commerce Six Roads to CA Circle, from Stadium Circle to Sardar Patel Bawla, the Mithakhali Circle vicinity, from Sabarmati railway station to Chandkheda Circle, from Motera Sai Temple to Koba metro station, and the stretch from Visat Circle to Toll Naka.

In the Southwest and South Zones, railings and safety structures will be established in the D-Mart area, Jivraj Park crossroads, Geetamandir crossroads, Parshuram junction, Shah-e-Alam area, Gomtipur, Amraiwadi, Narolvas Road, and Vatva, among other sensitive routes. The roads located in the Northwest Zone encompass the segment from Memnagar crossroads to Sanjivani Hospital, Vastrapur Lakefront, Gurukul Road, Dhanvantari crossroads, and the RTO Technical Compound Circle.

In the North Zone, the work will include Thakkarnagar Approach road, the routes leading to Naroda village, Dhanushdhari Nagar Road, Jahangirpura Bridge, the Bapunagar crossroads area, Mahudi Cotton Road, Bapa Sitaram Chowk Road, and the road extending from Goyal Circle to the airport. In the East Zone, railings are set to be installed in locations such as Viratnagar, Maninagar Road, Virat crossroads, CTM crossroads, Rakhial Bridge, the Rakhial area, and the Ramol police chowky area.

Overall, the AMC plans to address 35 roads in the West Zone, 10 in the South-West Zone, 13 in the South Zone, 12 in the North Zone, seven in the Northwest Zone, five in the Central Zone, and eight in the East Zone. In Jodhpur Ward, a railing measuring 100 meters has been installed near Riddhi Tower, while a 50-meter-long railing has been placed near Lotus School.
