The government of Rajasthan is set to enhance 14 state highways, spanning approximately 926 kilometers, as part of the Rajasthan Highways Modernisation Project, which is supported by a loan of Rs 2,025 crore that has been sanctioned by the World Bank.

This initiative is designed to bolster road infrastructure, refine transport systems, and improve road safety throughout the state. The project will be executed using a combination of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and hybrid annuity model (HAM) packages.

Specifically, five highway packages will be developed under the EPC framework, while nine will adopt the HAM approach. A formal agreement is anticipated to be established among the World Bank, the Department of Economic Affairs of the Government of India, and various agencies within the state of Rajasthan. Notable aspects of the project include the implementation of intelligent transport systems for real-time traffic monitoring, enhanced enforcement capabilities, and improved emergency response systems.

Furthermore, the plan encompasses the establishment of trauma care centers, GPS-enabled ambulances, and integrated accident response systems aimed at minimizing fatalities during the critical ‘golden hour.’ Additional elements of the project consist of wayside amenities, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, ropeways, tree plantation initiatives, logistics planning, and measures to alleviate traffic congestion in major urban centers such as Jaipur and Jodhpur, with the goal of enhancing mobility and logistics efficiency throughout the state.
