The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has engaged a new consulting firm to create a comprehensive detailed project report (DPR) for the 60-km Paror-Padhar segment of the Pathankot-Mandi four-lane initiative, which has encountered delays over the last four years.
This initiative is intended to address the persistent challenges and rejuvenate the vital highway corridor connecting Pathankot to Leh. Following the approval of the updated DPR, the NHAI will initiate land acquisition and invite global tenders.
The newly constructed four-lane road is projected to shorten the distance between Pathankot and Mandi by approximately 48 km, thereby significantly enhancing travel efficiency. This project holds strategic significance, as it will improve connectivity for civilian travel and enable faster military access to Leh and Ladakh.
The anticipated development is likely to stimulate tourism, commerce, and transportation in the area, particularly benefiting districts such as Kangra, Palampur, and Mandi. Local inhabitants and businesses have long supported the initiative, pointing to issues such as traffic congestion, delays, and increased fuel expenses. The new highway is expected to mitigate these problems and improve regional connectivity.
