Coimbatore smart city projects lauded by Union housing ministry

The ministry has appreciated the construction of Thiruvalluvar statue at Kurichi Lake using Tamil alphabets, development of model roads, lakefront promenades and the 11-metre-tall media tree at Race Course.

The city corporation has received a pat on its back from the Union housing and urban affairs ministry for the projects implemented under the smart city mission.

Recently, the Union government had sent a media delegation from New Delhi to amplify the smart city projects carried out by the city corporation to the rest of the country. The housing and urban affairs ministry has now tweeted the stories published by the media houses, appreciating the civic body.

The ministry has appreciated the construction of Thiruvalluvar statue at Kurichi Lake using Tamil alphabets, development of model roads, lakefront promenades and the 11-metre-tall media tree at Race Course.

“Under the smart cities mission, a 25ft tall steel statue of legendary Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar has been installed near Kurichikulam lakeside. It is a first-of-its-kind statue in India using more than 3,000 alphabets. It is an exceptional tribute to the city’s rich heritage and intellectual legacy,” the ministry tweeted, appreciating the statue.

“Coimbatore’s smart city transformation shines bright with the ‘Media Tree’ – an 11m tall LED tower displaying vital info & entertainment. Model roads at Race Course & DB Road blend aesthetics & functionality,” the ministry’s another tweet read.
