DRDA allotted the houses according to reservation norms. Trichy district administration awarded 40 houses to those from scheduled castes (SCs), 25 each to people from most backward class (MBC) and backward class (BC), and 10 houses to others.

The samathuvapuram at Periya Kattukulam should have become functional in 2010 but for legal issues surrounding its establishment which put the project on hold despite construction of houses and infrastructure. It has facilities such as roads, playground, park, ration shop and overhead water tank.

With legal issues settled, the government allotted 112.81 lakh to renovate the entire samathuvapuram. Established on a sprawling 9.47 acres at Periya Kattukulam, it will be the eighth of its kind in Trichy.

The district already has seven samathuvapurams at Inamkulathur, Kallakudi, Pannampatti, Ezhoorpatti, Thalambadi, Aarachi and Kannanur. Project director Devanathan said the other samathuvapurams in the district have been functioning with all houses occupied.
