The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has successfully gathered Rs 153 crore in advance property and water taxes for the financial year 2026-27 within a span of just 40 days. As of May 18, a total of 2.43 lakh taxpayers have settled their dues since the commencement of the tax collection initiative on April 7.

In the previous financial year, RMC amassed a total tax revenue of Rs 448 crore. Digital transactions have played a significant role in the tax collection process, with 1.86 lakh citizens choosing to pay online, contributing Rs 111.21 crore to the municipal funds. In contrast, 57,731 taxpayers opted for traditional payment methods, remitting Rs 42 crore through cheque and cash.

To encourage early payments, the RMC has already allocated a considerable Rs 18.30 crore in advance tax discounts to qualifying citizens. This year’s advance collection reflects a consistent increase from the prior year, rising from Rs 148 crore to Rs 152.96 crore for the same period last year. The breakdown of collections across the city’s zones indicates growth in all areas.

The civic body recorded the highest collection of Rs 72 crore from the west zone, followed by Rs 48 crore from the central zone and Rs 32 crore from the east zone. The tax recovery branch has urged all property owners within the municipal boundaries to take advantage of the ongoing rebate schemes before the deadlines lapse.

Taxpayers have until May 31 to avail themselves of a 10% discount for general taxpayers and a 15% discount for women property owners. For payments made between June 1 and June 30, 2026, the discount rates will be modified to 5% for general taxpayers and 10% for women property owners.
