Republic Day invitees to ride Delhi Metro for free on Jan 26

A senior official informed PTI that Republic Day electronic tickets purchased online "would contain a QR code" and could be shown at metro stations to "receive a token for free transportation to the stations close the event.

Those invited to the 74th Republic Day celebrations on January 26th at Kartavya Path and anyone else with digital tickets for the event will have the unique opportunity to enjoy a ‘free metro trip” to the two stations closest to Raisina Hill. The two closest metro stations are Udyog Bhawan Station and Central Secretariat Station, both of which are on the Yellow Line on the Delhi Metro.

The information was first presented on Wednesday by defence ministry representative during a presentation on the activities that are set to take place from January 23rd to January 31st as part of the Republic Day celebrations.

Later, a senior official informed PTI that Republic Day electronic tickets purchased online “would contain a QR code” and could be shown at metro stations to “receive a token for free transportation to the stations close the event.”

“Metro services will be operating on January 26,” read one of the slides during the powerpoint presentation.

After Rajpath was renamed “Kartavya Path” last year, this will be the first Republic Day festivities held along the ceremonial boulevard.

“This year, physical invitation cards for guests and spectators have been replaced by e-invitations. For this purpose, a dedicated portal amantran.mod.gov.in has been launched. Sale of tickets, admit cards, invitation cards and car parking labels are being issued online through this portal,” the defence ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
