Pune Smart City projects to be handed over to private

“Tenders for some of the smart city projects were issued four times. But nobody came forward to take the responsibility to run them. So, we will now offer them at lesser rates,” said Sanjay Kolte, chief executive officer, PSCDCL.

Altogether 10 Smart City projects would be handed over to private players at discounted rent for running them.

The Pune Smart City Development Corporation Limited and Pune Municipal Corporation have decided to slash the rental rates of the properties, where the projects are being built. A decision was taken regarding the same at a meeting on Wednesday.

“Tenders for some of the smart city projects were issued four times. But nobody came forward to take the responsibility to run them. So, we will now offer them at lesser rates,” said Sanjay Kolte, chief executive officer, PSCDCL.

The authority had offered in previous tenders to allot the projects at 2.5% of the ready reckoner rates, which will now be slashed to 0.7%.

As per Kolte, these projects are located in Aundh-Baner-Balewadi areas. These projects would soon be handed over to the PMC as tenure of the smart city corporation is expected to end soon.

“The rates are being reduced based on the notification from the state government. If required, the civic administration will carry out maintenance of these projects before handing them over to private operators,” said Vikram Kumar, administrator, PMC.

Some of the projects that have not got the response include community farming, science park, bookzania, fitness and rejuvenation, specially-abled park etc.
