PMC finally starts issuing property tax bills

The bills have been made available online, too. Property owners can access them by visiting the website of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has started issuing property tax bills from Monday after a delay of one-and-a-half months.

The bills have been made available online, too. Property owners can access them by visiting the website of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).

As per the PMC officials, the process of calculating the bills has been carried out once again after declaration of 40% tax discount on self-occupied properties. “The taxpayers can make payment through various modes. Payment options like online payment gateways or in person submission by reaching civic offices are available,” said Ajit Deshmukh, head of the PMC’s property tax department.

According to the PMC data, around 7.68 lakh bills have been uploaded online till Monday. The printing for the same has started and the distribution by post will be carried out from May 19. The remaining around 4 lakh bills will be generated and distributed between May 16 and 31.

As per the state’s notification, properties registered after 2019 which had not received the benefit of this discount, will be assessed. They will get the discount with effect from April 1 this year.

The 40% tax scheme was discontinued in 2019 and the PMC started distribution of bills with increased tax. It was decided that the arrears of previous years would be recovered from the property owners, which led to protests. The PMC has roped in post offices for distribution of property tax bills after discontinuing the services of private agencies. The PMC will spend around Rs50 lakh on the distribution.
