Now, Govt employees can buy plots in smart townships across Andhra Pradesh

The state government has removed the ‘local’ clause for purchase of house sites in Jagananna ‘smart townships’.

This will help employees purchase sites in layouts developed by urban development authorities anywhere in the state irrespective of the district they are working. The decision has been taken following recommendations of the group of ministers (GoM), which held several rounds of discussions with employees in the last two months.

Special chief secretary (municipal administration) Y Srilakshmi said the government has decided to allow government employees to make an option for applying for plots in MIG layouts/Jagananna ‘smart townships’ developed by the urban development authorities, anywhere across the state.

The employees would be granted plots at 20 per cent rebate on the price fixed by the UDAs. All the UDAs have already been directed to spare 10 per cent of the plots for government employees, she said.

The government earlier reserved 10 per cent plots for local employees in the proposed ‘smart townships’. Employees’ association representatives requested the government to allow employees to purchase plots at their desired destination as they might prefer to settle in those places in view of their personal and family requirements. They also contended that removal of the local clause would help more employees invest in the smart townships in cities of their choice.

“Keeping in view the welfare of employees and to motivate them, the government has now decided to give them an option to purchase plots anywhere in the state,” said Srilakshmi.
