NMMC identifies 527 buildings as ‘dangerous’

After conducting a survey of aging and deteriorating structures, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has classified 527 buildings as ‘dangerous’ and has requested that residents vacate these premises.

“The ongoing occupation of such buildings presents considerable hazards, and the corporation will not assume responsibility for any incidents that may occur,” stated NMMC commissioner Kailas Shinde.

An official indicated that buildings older than 30 years are required to undergo structural inspections by September 30, with the findings to be submitted to the assistant commissioner, ward officer, or assistant director of the town planning department.

Failure to comply will result in a penalty of Rs 25,000 or the equivalent of the annual property tax, whichever amount is greater.
