In a significant advancement for the Punjab government’s initiative to recover overdue property taxes, the urban local bodies (ULBs) in Mohali district have achieved a remarkable collection of Rs 11.43 crore in merely 19 days through the one-time settlement (OTS) scheme.

Commending the citizens’ enthusiastic participation, Mohali deputy commissioner Komal Mittal remarked that the extraordinary recovery from July 1 to July 19 demonstrates the effectiveness of the scheme launched by chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, which aims to provide considerable relief on long-standing property tax obligations.

As per official statistics, Zirakpur led the collections with Rs 7.53 crore, followed by Kharar with Rs 2.09 crore, and Derabassi with Rs 96.45 lakh. The detailed collection figures from other municipal councils are as follows: Kurali – Rs 22.25 lakh, Nayagaon – Rs 32.50 lakh, Banur – Rs 17.02 lakh, and Lalru – Rs 12.39 lakh. The deputy commissioner clarified that under the OTS scheme, residents with unpaid or partially paid property tax dues up to March 31, 2025, qualify for a complete waiver on penalties and interest if they settle the principal amount by July 31, 2025.

Those who make payments between August 1 and October 31 will receive a 50% reduction on penalties and interest. After this timeframe, the full penalties and interest will be enforced according to current regulations. To further assist taxpayers, the district administration has resolved to keep municipal council offices operational on weekends until July 31. “This will aid working citizens who cannot visit during weekdays,” the deputy commissioner noted. In an effort to motivate the public and evaluate the implementation, additional deputy commissioner (urban development) Anmol Singh Dhaliwal conducted inspections of the Zirakpur and Kharar municipal councils on Friday.

He expressed contentment with the robust response from residents and praised the efforts of the municipal teams. Encouraging citizens to take full advantage of the scheme, DC Komal Mittal urged residents to visit their respective municipal councils and settle their dues within the designated timeframe to prevent incurring penalties.
