In a significant development poised to bolster Punjab’s economic situation, Lulu Group International, a retail powerhouse headquartered in Abu Dhabi, is gearing up to establish a cutting-edge logistics and food processing center in Amritsar. Collaborating closely with the Punjab government, Lulu Group’s latest venture aims to leverage the region’s potential as a hub for sourcing and processing local products.
Set to break ground imminently, the proposed facility will occupy a substantial 20-acre land parcel in Amritsar and boast an impressive capacity of 2 lakh metric tons. This initiative signifies a strategic move by Lulu Group to integrate Amritsar into its extensive network, thereby fostering mutually beneficial partnerships with SMEs, local farmers, agricultural cooperatives, and farmers’ producer organizations.
Renowned for its expansive presence spanning the Middle East, Far East, and Africa, Lulu Group has already established logistics and procurement centers in 15 Indian states. Annually exporting over Rs 10,000 crore worth of products, including a diverse range of agriculture produce, the group caters to the needs of its 270 retail outlets worldwide.
Emphasizing the strategic significance of Amritsar, Salim MA, Director of Lulu Group, lauded the city’s vibrant business environment, particularly its flourishing SME sector. The forthcoming logistics and food processing center is poised to serve as a vital hub for the storage, processing, grading, and packing of locally sourced agricultural produce, thereby bolstering the region’s agricultural ecosystem.
Beyond its economic implications, the establishment of this center is expected to catalyze job creation within the state, offering employment opportunities across various skill levels. In a proactive move to facilitate collaboration, a delegation from Lulu Group is slated to visit Amritsar shortly to engage with SMEs and potential suppliers.
This ambitious venture in Amritsar underscores Lulu Group’s commitment to driving economic growth, fostering entrepreneurship, and nurturing local talent across India. It builds upon the group’s prior investments in the country, including its plans unveiled during the UP Global Investors Summit 2023, where it expressed intentions to invest Rs 2,500 crore in constructing malls and a hotel in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
