JMC issues over 420 notices to urban development tax defaulters

Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Greater has started attaching properties which have a high amount of urban development tax pending.So far, the civic body has issued over 420 attachment notices to property owners with highest 185 in Malviya Nagar zone. Thirty-five notices have been issued in Mansarovar zone, 58 notices in Vidhyadhar Nagar zone, two in Sanganer zone, 40 in Murlipura zone, 56 in Jhotwara zone and 53 in Jagatpura zone till March 25.

Janardan Sharma, deputy commissioner (revenue) in JMC Greater, said, “From April 1, 2023 to March 25, 2024, we have collected UD tax of Rs 70.72 crore. We are continuously taking action and issuing attachment notices, if we do not get a response then we are attaching the properties. We have already collected more tax this financial year compared to previous year, and we will continue to take action.”

Officials said that still there are many government and private agencies on Tonk Road, JLN Marg who are yet to pay UD tax worth crores of rupees and these properties are likely to get attached.

“This time we have created a new record in revenue from advertising sites. This time, we have collected a revenue of over Rs 56 crore by auctioning advertisement sites, which is 80% more than the last financial year. Last year this revenue was Rs 31.47 crore,” said Sharma.

He said that big institutions which have outstanding dues of Rs 1 crore or more, will be given notices again. “For some government institutes, there are disputes going on, while some government institutions have not responded yet. We will soon take recovery action against these institutions, and if they do not deposit the tax on time, then these properties will have to be attached,” added the official.
