IMC identifies 2,500 property & water tax defaulters

“We have identified around 2500 defaulters, who have at least Rs 1 lakh or more due as property and water taxes. Of them, around 10 departments and establishments have about Rs 200 crore pending with them,” IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said.

 Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has identified around 2500 defaulters with more than Rs 1 lakh property and water tax dues.

Of them, around 10 departments and establishments have about Rs 200 crore pending with them. We have some accounts to settle with railways, Indore Development Authority (IDA) and some other government establishments,” IMC additional commissioner Abhilash Mishra said.

He added that there some colonizers, who have dues running in crores as property tax and IMC will make efforts to recover the amount from them. “We have already launched a drive to tighten the noose around big defaulters and in this process, some property were also seized in the recent past,” he said.

Senior IMC officials said, revenue of around Rs 400 crore has been generated so far through property tax, water tax, rent from markets and fees of different services. But it’s only halfway since the civic body is eyeing to record total income of around Rs 800 crore by end of this financial year.

As of now, IMC has around Rs 400 crore to pay to contractors along with total debt of around Rs 800 crore as bank loans.
