Aurangabad to get over 500 more rural roads, over 35 bridges

To facilitate better transport facilities and enhance connectivity, the rural works department will construct more than 500 roads and over 35 bridges this year.

Superintendent engineer, RWD, Mohammad Arshad, said under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sampark Yojana (residual) 439 km roads across various assembly constituencies of the district would be built. The projects include 80 roads in Rafiganj constituency, Nabinagar (123), Obra (43), Goh (80), Aurangabad (62) and Kutumba (44).

He said a survey is being conducted via a mobile app to connect smaller hamlets and settlements with paved roads. A detailed project report (DPR) will be submitted to the headquarters by Feb 28. He added that the tender process for the selected roads will be finalised by the end of this financial year, paving the way for the commencement of construction work.Under the Mukhyamantri Gram Setu Yojana, 152 bridges and culverts have been planned for the district. Out of these, a list of 12 bridges has already been submitted to the department, and a DPR is being prepared. The construction of these bridges will significantly improve connectivity to remote villages and reduce travel distances to block and district headquarters.

Currently, there are 653 hamlets in the district which lack road connectivity. A survey has also been conducted via a mobile app, and DPRs for 104 pathways will be prepared and submitted to the headquarters by Jan 31 in the current fiscal.

Additionally, under the Mukhyamantri Gram Sadak Unnayan Yojana that focuses on reconstruction of roads built five or more years ago, the Aurangabad division has proposed rebuilding of 383 roads, out of which 303 DPRs have already been submitted. Similarly, the Daudnagar division has proposed 239 rural road projects, with 185 DPRs already sent to the headquarters, and the remaining would be submitted by Jan 31.

He said the roads connected to national and state highways that witness heavy vehicular movement will be widened to 5m to ensure smooth traffic flow.
