More than 7,92,000 people travelled by Namma Metro trains on Monday (April 15), recording the network’s highest daily ridership. Officials said in the coming days, the ridership may breach 8 lakh. The previous record of 7.8 lakh was recorded on Jan 25.
BMRCL executive director (operations and maintenance) AS Shankar said, “Usually on Mondays, there’ll be more footfall at Metro stations. People who travel out of the city during the weekend, when they return, use Namma Metro train services in greater numbers to reach different destinations.
This apart, the increasing number of employees working from office has contributed to record ridership.” The official added that the recent initiative of 5am services from Majestic interchange station in all four directions has been received well.
