Sudivya Kumar, the Urban Development Minister of Jharkhand, inaugurated an online portal designed to assist in the regularisation of unauthorised residential buildings throughout the state. This initiative comes in the wake of the state cabinet’s endorsement of the ‘Jharkhand Regularisation of Unauthorisedly Constructed Building Rules, 2026’ on April 15, which aims to incorporate specific unauthorised constructions into the legal framework by imposing certain conditions and penalties.
With the introduction of this portal, residents are now able to submit their applications online for the regularisation of their homes, as stated by Kumar. Kumar emphasized that the purpose of this regulation is not to promote unauthorised construction, but rather to offer assistance to those who have already constructed homes without approved building plans. He also mentioned that the government has streamlined the regularisation process and has introduced a provision that allows the payment of fees in three instalments to alleviate the financial strain on applicants.
Sunil Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, indicated that applications for regularisation must be filed within two months from the portal’s launch date. He further noted that the authorities are anticipated to reach a decision on the applications within a six-month timeframe.
Officials have stated that the regularisation scheme will be applicable solely to residential buildings with a maximum height of G+2 or houses constructed on plots of less than 300 square feet.
