PMC to Organise Property Tax Camps in Four Patna Wards

by Constro Facilitator

The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will organise ward-wise property tax assessment camps from October 5 to bring unassessed properties under the tax net. The camps will provide property owners with an opportunity to get new assessments completed, seek reassessment, correct property tax records and pay pending dues.

The exercise will be carried out in two phases across selected wards. The first phase will take place from October 5 to 7 at the ward councillor’s office in Ward 3 under the New Capital Circle and at Gate No. 93 on Ashok Rajpath for Ward 22-A under the Patliputra Circle. The second phase is scheduled from October 8 to 10 at the ward councillor’s office in Harnichak for Ward 11 and at the ward councillor’s office in Kurji for Ward 22-B.

The camps are part of PMC’s wider property tax assessment drive, which is aimed at identifying properties that have not yet been assessed or whose existing records require reassessment. PMC officials have directed sanitation inspectors and sector supervisors to conduct ward-level surveys to identify such properties. The information collected through these surveys will be shared with the concerned executive officers for further action.

The civic body is also using electricity consumption records to identify properties that may not be included in the property tax system. According to a PMC communique, its control room will contact electricity consumers whose properties are outside the property tax net and inform them about the assessment camps. This is expected to help the corporation identify additional properties and bring their details into the tax records.

Property owners attending the camps will also be able to clear outstanding property tax dues. PMC has stated that a penalty of 1.5% per month on pending property tax came into effect from October 1. The civic body has therefore advised property tax defaulters to pay their outstanding dues at the earliest to avoid the accumulation of additional penalties.

The ward-wise camps are being conducted alongside PMC’s ongoing door-to-door property tax survey and assessment exercise. The wider drive is intended to expand the city’s property tax base and improve revenue collection by identifying properties that remain outside the existing assessment system.

For property owners, the camps provide a local point of contact for addressing assessment-related issues instead of relying only on regular civic office procedures. Owners whose properties have not been assessed can approach the designated camps for assessment, while those with discrepancies in existing records can seek corrections or reassessment.

The initiative also indicates PMC’s continuing focus on improving property tax compliance across Patna. By combining door-to-door surveys, ward-level camps and information from electricity consumers, the civic body is seeking to identify properties that have not been brought into the tax system.

The assessment camps will remain available at the specified ward locations according to the two-phase schedule. Property owners with pending dues or assessment-related issues can use the camps to complete the required process and address their property tax records
