The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has successfully collected 23% of its targeted revenue for the current fiscal year through holding taxes, with over 54,709 households out of a total of 2.34 lakh registered properties having settled their dues since April of this year.
The RMC has amassed Rs 22 crore in holding tax payments for the financial year 2025–26, reaching 23% of its annual goal of Rs 97 crore, stated deputy municipal commissioner Gautam Prasad Sahu. To promote timely payments, the civic body has introduced rebates of up to 10% for those who settle their dues by June 30.
The maximum rebate of 10% is available for online payments, including those made via a newly launched WhatsApp chatbot – RMC Payment Mitra (Mobile No: 8986627070). This marks the first instance of RMC utilizing a chatbot service for tax collection. “This year, we are making a significant effort to encourage digital payments.
We have already surpassed Rs 22 crore in collections within just two months of the launch,” Sahu remarked. In addition to online payments, transactions made at Jan Suvidha Kendras located at the RMC headquarters and the Doranda zonal office qualify for a 7.5% rebate, while door-to-door collections conducted by an authorized agency offer a 5% rebate. Furthermore, specific groups such as senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, transgender individuals, and armed forces personnel are eligible for an additional 5% rebate upon providing valid documentation.
