A major sporting infrastructure project is set to take shape in Uttar Pradesh as the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has submitted the proposal for an international cricket stadium to the state government for approval. The ambitious project, planned near Raj Nagar Extension in Ghaziabad, is expected to become a landmark sporting destination for the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh.
According to officials, the proposal has already been finalized and forwarded to the state government, with approval anticipated within the next 15 to 30 days. Once the approval is received, the GDA will move forward with the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) and begin the tendering and construction process. Authorities are aiming to commence construction by the end of 2026.
The proposed stadium will be developed through a 50:50 joint venture between the Ghaziabad Development Authority and the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. The partnership was formally approved by the GDA on May 14, paving the way for the project’s next phase. The stadium will be built on approximately 34.42 acres of land and is expected to cost between ₹600 crore and ₹650 crore.
Designed to meet international standards, the stadium will have a seating capacity of around 35,000 spectators. Beyond hosting domestic and international cricket matches, the facility will include a modern sports academy, training centre, fitness facilities, and sports science infrastructure. These additions are expected to support athlete development and create a comprehensive sports ecosystem in the region.
Officials believe the project will fill a significant gap in sports infrastructure. While the NCR hosts several major sporting venues, Ghaziabad and surrounding areas currently lack an international-standard cricket stadium. The new facility is expected to provide aspiring cricketers and athletes access to world-class training and competition facilities without having to travel to other cities.
The project is also expected to generate broader economic benefits. Large sporting venues often act as catalysts for urban development, attracting hotels, restaurants, retail outlets, and entertainment facilities. The stadium’s strategic location near Raj Nagar Extension and its proximity to key transportation networks are likely to enhance accessibility for spectators and visitors from across the region.
Another factor contributing to the project’s significance is its location near two major proposed urban developments—Harnandipuram township and an aerocity-themed township. The presence of a large sports venue could increase the attractiveness of these upcoming developments, boosting real estate activity and investment in the surrounding area.
The idea of establishing an international cricket stadium in Ghaziabad has been under discussion since 2018. However, momentum increased after Yogi Adityanath directed authorities during his Ghaziabad visit in June 2025 to expedite the project and move it towards implementation.
