Karnataka Government Proposes Green Energy Corridor For Hydrogen Revolution

The Karnataka government is exploring the expansion of the green energy corridor dedicated to hydrogen energy. This initiative aims to boost the utilization of renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on traditional fuel sources.

Presentation to the Ministry of Power

Energy Minister K J George, along with the energy department, presented the proposal to the Ministry of Power. They highlighted the state’s increased solarization efforts and the recent bids for 768 MW of solar power generation.

**Unique Aspect of Karnataka’s Proposal**

While the green energy corridor concept is not new, Karnataka, a leader in solar power, seeks a larger allocation, especially for hydrogen energy. The state’s emphasis on global significance aligns with the future of renewable energy.

Green Energy Corridor Overview

A senior official clarified that the green energy corridor involves a central government scheme for establishing transmission lines exclusively for green energy. The system operates on a demand-and-supply basis without specific state allocations.

Yelahanka Combined Cycle Plant and Hybrid Energy

George’s office shared that the government is actively working to procure green energy from the Yelahanka combined cycle plant. Additionally, the state has augmented its capacity with 1,100 MW of hybrid energy to meet rising electricity demand.

Mission Innovation Challenge and Future Goals

India’s participation in the Mission Innovation Challenge and the goal to produce three-fourths of its hydrogen from renewable resources by 2050 showcases the nation’s commitment to a sustainable energy transition.

The Karnataka government’s proposal signifies a significant step in India’s commitment to green energy, with a focus on hydrogen, contributing to the nation’s energy security and decarbonization goals.
