Over 15,000 of the total 50,000 2-BHK units targeted to be completed by Dasara are nearly complete. Municipal minister KT Rama Rao has set the target for officials and contractors to complete 50,000 2-BHK units, which will be allotted to beneficiaries on or before Dasara.
Even construction workers have started to return to work in and around Greater Hyderabad. Now, the contractors were scouting for technical work force such as plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
“About 15,000 units are ready and need finishing touches by plumbers, electricians and carpenters. Though some of them are available, but we need more. We are trying to get them from wherever possible. Right from Greater Hyderabad and its surrounding districts to other states, the contractors are trying to get technicians,” a senior official said.
The contractors have speeded up construction of 2-BHK housing. Though there was shortage of labourers who went back to their home states during lockdown, some of them have returned giving a much-needed fillip to the construction work.
Nearly a lakh 2-BHK units were in various stages of completion in and around Greater Hyderabad. Nearly Rs 12,000 crore has been allocated by the government to housing department in 2020-21 budget.
GHMC chief engineer K Suresh exuded confidence that they would be able to complete 50,000 houses by Dasara in tune with the deadline set by KTR. “We are trying to complete more than 50,000 units by October-end,” he added.
While GHMC is working fast to finish the target, the works on 2-BHK project elsewhere in the state were also at various stages of completion.
