The property tax recovery cell of the Panvel city municipal corporation(PCMC) on Friday recovered over Rs 2.25 crore, highest in a single day.The civic body has so far recovered Rs 283 crore property tax this fiscal year. The total recovery stands at Rs 569 crore as of Friday. The recovery may rise as the financial year is approaching its closure within a fortnight.One of the major property-tax payers is Dharti Constructions-Kharghar that has paid about Rs 1.29 crore property tax.
The civic body has claimed that over 400 notices for pre-seizure of properties have been issued.The property owners have responded positively. As per rule, if the property owners don’t pay up with seven days of issuance of ‘notice for pre seizure’ of properties then warrants are issued.
The Panvel civic body has formed nine recovery cells for property tax collection both manually as well as via online payment mode.
The municipal corporation area has 3.5 lakh property owners. Earlier, the civic body had issued notices for pre-seizure of properties to 99 industrial units in Taloja MIDC and two in Jawahar Industrial Estate-Kamothe.
