Odisha approves 43 housing projects under PMAY 2.0

In order to ensure quality housing for individuals residing in urban regions, the housing and urban development department has sanctioned 43 comprehensive project reports within the beneficiary-led construction segment of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0. These initiatives will be carried out across 42 urban local bodies. Upon completion, these 43 projects are expected to deliver 3,949 housing units to the beneficiaries.

The total expenditure for these projects will amount to Rs 256 crores, funded through contributions from the Centre, the state, and the beneficiaries themselves. For these initiatives, the Centre will allocate Rs 59 crore at a rate of Rs 1.5 lakh per housing unit, while the state will contribute Rs 39 crore at Rs 1 lakh per unit. The remaining grant, totaling Rs 157 crore, will be the responsibility of the beneficiaries, who will contribute Rs 4 lakh per unit.

The beneficiary-led construction aspect of PMAY 2.0 pertains to a scheme component that provides financial support to eligible families, particularly those from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to build new homes or improve existing ones on their own land. In a correspondence directed to urban local bodies, the joint secretary of the urban development department, Satish Chandra Singh, communicated the state-level approval and urged local bodies to initiate actions and raise awareness among beneficiaries at the grassroots level.

Among the urban local bodies, Bhubaneswar is set to implement 44 housing units, while Khurda will see 26 units, Puri will have 115 units, and Cuttack will execute 41 units. The highest number of 663 housing units will be established in Bhuban, located in the Dhenkanal district. Additionally, 579 units will be constructed in Bhadrak municipality, 270 in Basudevpur, 220 in Chandbali, 219 in Sambalpur, 175 in Athagarh, 137 in Jajpur, 119 at Khariar in Nuapada, and 102 housing units at Polasara in Ganjam district.

Sources said the projects were approved by the state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee, and the proposal will be forwarded to the ministry of housing and urban affairs now for granting financial assistance for execution of the projects.
