The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to address traffic congestion at the Sarai Kale Khan loop, a key interchange on the DND–Sohna National Highway corridor. The initiative is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic movement ahead of the commissioning of the new highway and improving connectivity across the National Capital Region (NCR).
Sarai Kale Khan has evolved into a major multimodal transport hub, connecting the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, and the upcoming DND–Sohna corridor, which links to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The junction also serves the Sarai Kale Khan Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT), Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) station, which became operational in February 2026.
The 59-km, six-lane DND–Sohna National Highway has been developed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana at an estimated cost of ₹4,463 crore. The corridor features eight elevated sections covering 12.03 km, 10 flyovers, and a 140-metre network arch bridge over the Agra Canal near Kalindi Kunj. It is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram, and Sohna.
Through the DPR, NHAI will evaluate engineering solutions to increase junction capacity, improve traffic circulation, reduce travel time, and enhance road safety. The objective is to eliminate congestion at the Sarai Kale Khan loop so that the benefits of the new corridor are fully realised once it becomes operational.
The project also supports regional infrastructure planning ahead of the opening of the Noida International Airport at Jewar. The DND–Sohna corridor is expected to provide direct access for travellers from South Delhi, Faridabad, and Gurugram, reducing dependence on congested city roads and improving connectivity to the airport. The planned improvements at Sarai Kale Khan are expected to strengthen one of NCR’s most important transport interchanges and support increasing traffic demand in the region.
