New online system to simplify building plan approvals

The state government is set to introduce FASTPAS (Fast and Simplified Trust-based Plan Approval System), an online platform designed to simplify the process of obtaining approvals for building plans.

The necessity for a new system, supported by cutting-edge technology and enhanced features, was recognized after the state government announced the new building bylaws in July. As per senior government officials, the trials of the new software have been successfully conducted over the last two months, and its official launch is anticipated within a month. “The costs and fees associated with obtaining various approvals are also expected to be reduced, as the new software was developed using the budget allocated by the state government.

The existing system, OBPAS (Online Building Plan Approval System), which is set to be discontinued, was created under a public-private partnership model,” the official stated. Additionally, uploading large documents and blueprints will be facilitated, as the new system will feature enhanced bandwidth and capacity to manage applications.

New functionalities will also be introduced to assist planners in utilizing geographical information system maps, zonal plans, logistics plans, and transport plans. The 29 housing development authorities currently handle between 15,000 and 20,000 applications related to building plan approvals each year.
