At present, the situation at the 200-feet bypass crossing and on the stretch of the Ajmer Road is no good, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) constructing a ramp of the flyover at the Kamla Nehru Crossing. All traffic had been diverted to the service lane adjacent to the four-lane highway.
To add on, while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had planned to construct cloverleafs at the Ring Road crossing during that time and the Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) would start the construction work for the extension of metro line from Mansarovar to 200-feet Bypass situations are expected to get worse.
NHAI officials said that work for the construction of cloverleafs at Mahapura crossing would start in early March. The cloverleafs would connect the national highway with the Ring Road to facilitate movements of vehicles coming from the Ring Road and going towards Jaipur and for vehicles coming from Ajmer-side going towards the Ring Road.
At the same time, officials of urban development and housing (UDH) department confirmed that metro officials are carrying out a feasibility study at the stretch between Mansarovar and 200-feet bypass. Soon they would start the construction work and CM Bhajan Lal Sharma is expected to lay the foundation for this project. The deadline for this project is March 2025.
“The condition of the Ajmer Road and 200-feet bypass would remain congested for a while. Hopefully, NHAI, Metro and traffic police would soon hold a joint meeting to find out a traffic solution for the time when all the three projects – over bridge, cloverleaf and metro extension – would be executed at the same time,” said an NHAI official.
Officers from the NHAI said that they are trying their best to complete the construction work for the ramp of the over bridge at Kamla Nehru Nagar before the onset of the monsoon this year. In case, they don’t face any major hindrance they are expecting to complete this project by May 2024.
“At present it takes almost 45 minutes to an hour to reach the Mahapura crossing from the 200-feet bypass. In fact, if you are coming from Jaipur or Delhi Road side, crossing the 200-feet bypass crossing is itself a big challenge. More work would mean more congestion and it would make traffic a nightmare,” said Ajay Saini, a regular commuter.
