A 92-km segment of the Chittoor-Thatchur National Highway, which is part of NH-716B, has been opened to vehicular traffic on a trial basis, representing a significant achievement in enhancing road connectivity in the area.

This six-lane, access-controlled greenfield expressway links Uthukottai on SH-50 to Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh, with the entire corridor anticipated to connect with the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway by August 2026.

The road is experiencing heavy traffic, with approximately 5,000 vehicles utilizing the route each day. The 112 km-long corridor, constructed at a cost of Rs 5,486.32 crore, features 24 major bridges, 17 minor bridges, 195 box culverts, and sophisticated traffic management systems equipped with 115 cameras for real-time monitoring.

The final 20 km segment, which will connect to the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR), is projected to be completed by December 2026. This project aims to enhance port connectivity and promote smoother traffic movement between major cities in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
