Avinashi Road Flyover named after GD Naidu, is set for inauguration

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has declared that the state’s longest flyover—the Avinashi Road Elevated Corridor in Coimbatore—will be named in honor of the renowned inventor and industrialist GD Naidu, who is widely celebrated as the ‘Edison of India’.

The inauguration is set for today. The 10.10-km-long flyover, built at a cost of Rs 1,791.22 crore, extends from Uppilipalayam to Goldwins and is anticipated to alleviate traffic on one of Coimbatore’s most congested routes.

The newly built elevated corridor, which measures 17.25 meters in width, incorporates various innovative safety features. Roller crash barriers have been installed on the ramps to improve vehicle safety, and rumble strips have been placed where ramp traffic merges with the flyover, thereby helping to minimize the risk of accidents.

Officially approved in August 2020, only five percent of the work had been completed previously, and the Chief Minister attributed the efficient completion of the remaining 95 percent to the Dravidian model of governance. Local entrepreneurs, industrialists, and residents have welcomed this initiative, commending GD Naidu’s legacy of innovation, technical excellence, and commitment to societal service.
