Over 100 premises up for auction in for non-payment of property tax

The civic body will soon start a process to auction a total of 109 properties across the city. A total of Rs 4 crore in tax is due from the owners of these properties.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has decided to auction the properties seized for non-payment of property tax.

The civic body will soon start a process to auction a total of 109 properties across the city.

A total of Rs 4 crore in tax is due from the owners of these properties.

“We had seized 2,000 properties due to non-payment of property tax last year. Owners of over 1,750 properties cleared the pending payments after our action, while some approached the court to seek a stay,” said Nilesh Deshmukh, assistant commissioner, PCMC.

The owners of these seized properties had been served notices several times by the municipal corporation and given multiple deadlines to make payment, but many of them failed to respond.

The municipal corporation recovered around Rs 18 crore of pending tax in the last one year after the properties were seized.

For some properties, the owners have not paid property tax for over three-four years, said an official.

A proposal has been already forwarded to the town planning department of the municipal corporation to assess the current market value of these properties.

The seized properties include residential, non-residential and commercial properties.
