DMC sends notices to 10,000 property tax defaulters

The scrutiny is still on and as more wards are covered, more defaulters may be identified soon, DMC officials said, adding that if they fail to make payment, they will be penalised.

The Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) has identified over 10,000 individual property tax defaulters in the city so far and issued them notices.

The scrutiny is still on and as more wards are covered, more defaulters may be identified soon, DMC officials said, adding that if they fail to make payment, they will be penalised. The penalty will go on increasing and in some extreme cases, properties may be sealed.

Meanwhile, government departments owe the civic body over Rs 16 crore in property taxes and even though the DMC has sent them notices, it is yet to take any concrete action.

As reported by TOI earlier, several government departments like the Public Works Department, Survey of India, Forest Research Institute, Dehradun police department and others owe taxes to the DMC from as far back as 2016.

Officials said that the Vidhan Sabha and the secretariat have submitted their taxes recently but others are yet to do so.
