Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Transportation Infrastructure division has obtained a significant contract from the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) to build 156 route kilometers (RKM) of high-speed ballastless track, referred to as Package T1, for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
The agreement encompasses the design, supply, construction, testing, and commissioning of track works on a design-build lump sum price basis, extending from Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Zaroli village in Gujarat. The project scope includes more than 21 km of underground track works (associated with Civil Packages C1 and C2) and 135 km on elevated viaducts (Package C3).
This marks L&T’s second track-work contract in the MAHSR initiative; in April 2022, the company secured Package T3 (116 km) from south Vadodara to Sabarmati depot. In total, L&T now manages over 50 percent of the track works for the MAHSR project. The initiative will employ Japanese Shinkansen J Slab Track Technology, which supports speeds of up to 320 km/h, while also enhancing ride quality, durability, and ease of maintenance.
